About Marlo Smith
Born from the roots of the Earth, Golden Howl brings songs that capture the essence of life. Golden Howl is an e x p a n s i v e indie folk rock band based out of San Diego. With "a vibe that's slightly like the Stones as fronted by Tori Amos," (James Herbert, San Diego Union Tribune) they will pull you in and captivate. Their ear-catching melodies, beautiful synergy and carefully crafted songs “impart energy, authenticity, and emotion that refuse to be ignored."
Formed in 2016 by founding members Marlo Smith (vocals, drums, cello), Shannon O'Shea (keyboards, vocals) and Christopher Balcom (guitar, vocals), quickly adding Rachel Riba (percussion), and eventually bringing in Jules Stewart (drums), and Josh Mooers (bass), Golden Howl had all the pieces to plug into the outlet of creativity.
Their first release 'mighty mighty' was released in 2018 and quickly followed up by their sophomore EP release 'blue s p a c e' in early 2019. They released their single 'Quiet' in January of 2021. Golden Howl was recently tapped by the historic Old Globe Theatre to pen original music for the west coast debut of the play "Hurricane Diane" written by Pulitzer Prize winning playwright Madeleine George. With a non-traditional setup and unique instrumentation, you will be left in excitement and curiosity for the next song.
